Sunday April 23 : Vancouver Sun Run – getting to the Island on the day

Once again, street closures will be in effect on both 4th and 6th Avenues from 8:30am until noon for the Vancouver Sun Run on Sunday, 23 April, restricting regular access to Granville Island. However, we are still open for business and want to make sure everyone knows how to get here that morning.

The designated alternate route begins at Columbia Street and 1st Avenue and continues west from 1st Avenue to Lamey’s Mill Road. (View map of detour here.)

Note also that local bus access to Granville Island (via the #50) will be unavailable for the morning of April 23rd. The #50 bus will resume service to Granville Island at 2pm and will follow the regular route from downtown Vancouver.

Other options to consider:
• Take a ferry. False Creek Ferries or The Aquabus
• Use the Laurel Street land bridge (from Fairview Slopes across 6th Avenue to Charleson Park) to walk, bike or blade.

Reminder that the seawall is still closed for upgrades from Foundry Quay to Old Bridge Walk, so pedestrian and cycling detours remain in effect along Lamey’s Mill Road.

For more information call the SUN RUN at 604-689-9441.

If you or any of your customers have any access issues on the day of the event, please contact the City of Vancouver by calling 311.

Michelle Khalid of Duke University needs your input in creating a busker app

My name is Michelle Khalid and I am a student at Duke University.
I am reaching out because I am taking a class in which we are trying to create an app for street performers and pedestrians. We are currently in our brainstorming phase, and I was wondering if you would be willing to take 5 minutes to answer a couple of questions to help us understand the benefits and challenges of being a street performer. We are hoping to use use this information to create an app that can better meet the needs of street performers around the US.
If you are interested in participating, please contact me directly at – I will send you a short questioner to fill out.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
Thank you so much for your time!
